SAP's SOA, Web 2.0 Plans Get Mixed User Reviews
ComputerWorld revealed that SAP AG users last week applauded the vendor's road map for adding service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web 2.0 technologies to its software, though some acknowledged that they aren't yet ready to use the new capabilities. Every vendor wants to get into Web 2.0 space, regardless whether they have anything to offer. It is fascinating from a researcher perspective.
Enterprise 2.0 definition - are we into fud again?
Software companies and IT market is very creative and the Office Jotter blog opens up a good discussion about this. I have been in the Business Intelligence market the past 20 years and nothing has changed; we have has named things slightly differently. I am sure that in the end of the day, we will find a way to see the real players from the "me too" vendors that have not much to show for. So, where you call it Enterprise 2.0 or something else, vendors are trying to figure out how to sell it to you. I agree that the article from Andrew McAfee is one of the best ways to describe Enterprise 2.0

Web 2.0, Part 1: The Definition Dilemma
Welcome to the new frontier of Web 2.0 -- "the convergence of media, methodology and medium on the Internet," according to Lycos CEO Brian Kalinowski. "It's about taking the best of what MySpace does -- but also using applications to augment those capabilities. It's about the convergence of consumption technology -- cell phones, gaming systems etc. The issue with Web 2.0 is that there are still multiple versions of Web 2.0 definition and this causes confusion among people. I am sure we can agree with most of these such as wikis, blogs, social networking, tagging etc.

Dion Hinchcliffe on Web 2.0 in business - very interesting read
More results on use of Web 2.0 in business emerge by ZDNet's Dion Hinchcliffe -- The last few weeks have seen a series of interesting new reports, studies, and papers on the past, present, and future of Web 2.0 concepts and applications as applied to businesses. Most notable for many industry watchers have been fairly rigorous new works by McKinsey & Company as well as Forrester, whom have each released the results of broad surveys of executives in various industries. The focus of both surveys was to capture a picture of the interests, activities, motivators for Web 2.0 adoption of several thousand C-level executives in medium to large companies. This stuff is very relevant for my upcoming book from Talentum that is soon to be released.

Gartner's 2006 Emerging Technologies Hype Cycle Highlights Key Technology Themes
Gartner, Inc., lists its 2006 Emerging Technologies Hype Cycle in August 2006 which assesses the maturity, impact and adoption speed of 36 key technologies and trends during the next ten years. This year’s hype cycle highlights three major themes that are experiencing significant activity and which include new or heavily hyped technologies, where organisations may be uncertain as to which will have most impact on their business.

Forrester and McKinsey research reports about Web 2.0
Today, while writing on my book to the Finnish publisher Talentum, I run into pretty nice analysis of the research reports by Forrester and McKinsey of Web 2.0 technologies. A good analysis is done by Nicolas Carr (the guy behind "Does IT Matter") and another one by Dion Hinchcliff and the most interesting thing that is obvious from the research is that CIO's do not see value in blogs and social networking, while the 2,800 McKinsey review saw social networking and blogs one of the most valuable things that exist in the Web 2.0 space. What can we learn from this? CIO's and business executives have differnet aims in their views and these reports demonstrate this. It is interesting to see how Web 2.0 transforms enterprises, technologies that were initially used by individuals.

SAP in trouble - good people leaving?
Very interesting indeed... eWeek reports that the star upcoming CEO Shai Agassi has left SAP. To me, this is good news for players in the midmarket, SAP is probably telling by this departure that there are problems in the horizon.
